CEIAG for Headteachers, Governors and SLT

Have you ever tried to contact a uni to support a school activity?

Saturday 3rd August 2013

If you have, I'm sure you will have had one of 2 experiences:-

1. You search the university you need and almost immediately see a link that is easily identifiable as the place to click for school and college contacts.

Or

2. You search the university you need, scroll up and down on the home page and don't see anything in particular that looks likely so you:-

  • Go to the open days page... you find a section for parents, but nothing for teachers
  • You click on the site map... you still can't find anything likely
  • You search on the site for school liaison... nothing
  • You search on the site for "school liaison"... You get a pile of pdfs of research about school liaison
  • You search on the site for outreach... pages of links to obscure bits and pieces in course descriptions
  • You search for widening participation and then "widening participation", then community outreach, "community outreach", recruitment, marketing, and finally community engagement...

You may or may not have struck lucky by this time you're ready to forget the idea of having undergrads helping with your CV workshop or talking to your students about careers for maths grads and resorted to doing a pile of marking as better use of your time.

Well this is where you say, "Why didn't that get done sooner?" I've spend a fair amount of time chasing down the direct links to all the school & college liaison teams (or whatever the uni wants to call them) and put them on pinterest boards ready for you to click on. I've finished England and am about to start on Scotland, Wales and NI too.

It's still a work in progress, I've emailed the universities that I've not been able to track down links for and asked them if they have an email or a link they can pass on for the resource. I'll add those as soon as I can.

The boards can be found at http://pinterest.com/careersdefender/ and are broken down into countries with 4 boards for England, North, Central and South with a separate board for London.

Please have a look, I've spent a long time on this and would like to know it is useful. Also please let me know if there are any errors so that I can correct them. Please feel free to leave a comment if they've proved useful.
