Evidencing progress in Careers Education & Work Experience

Tuesday 18th June 2013

One of the biggest challenges in providing careers education for school pupils is the need to ofsted-inspector-on-the-doorstep evidence progress. With Ofsted taking an increasing interest in CEIAG it's more important than ever to provide proof.

One of the ways I've tackled this is by each year having a checklist of learning outcomes for each year group, this is then used as a progress check by being included in the year group careers workbook which is produced. Pupils and teachers then have a snapshot of what is done and still to do, thus increasing engagement and organisation. Pupils have a sense of ownership and achievement, teacher nagging is reduced. If the page can be included in the school planner, then parents will also have an overview of what is going on. An example is below, please feel free to contact me if you want to see my other checklists.
