Gove is winning, you're volunteering for extra work!

Thursday 9th January 2014

Reading and article in the TES FE Blog today I was appalled to see the following

"...but an independent YouGov poll of more than 800 teachers commissioned by Pearson College has found that 75 per cent of teachers want more involvement from businesses when delivering that guidance."

The piece entitled Teachers fear for quality of careers advice, poll shows at first glance sounds like teachers are rallying to the cry of the careers education lobby. No such luck!

Gove is the one saying get employers in, he's managed to brainwash the very people who will pick up the work generated by his employer led model. Before you respond to my statement, just ask yourself the following questions.

  • Who will arrange and brief the employers
  • Who will arrange safeguarding and escort them whilst on the premises?
  • Who will undertake quality control of employers input

Shall I continue?

Roxanne Stockwell the head of Pearson College is quoted as saying
"The only way we can tackle the current careers advice crisis is for business and schools to work together to deliver guidance that gives students the information they need to make the right choices for their careers."

Who is going to do this work?

  • Teachers?
  • Careers advisors?
  • Admin staff?

Ask yourself, who in your school has the knowledge to arrange these visits AND ensure that careers education is taking place?

Gove has succeeded in his personal crusade to decimate careers work for young people despite the calls from swathes of evidence to refute his assertions.

Please tell me you've not fallen for his lies.
